The farewell to Thailand is approaching....

E phatlaladitšwe: 12.11.2019

On Sunday (10.11) we took the time to sleep in, pack our bags, and have breakfast outside one last time on Koh Tao. This time we went to Cafe del Sol and both of us had baguettes, one with feta cheese (Julia) and one with ham and cheese (Marius). Afterwards, we fulfilled my wish for a fresh coconut on the beach, so we walked all the way down the Main Street and found a restaurant by the beach. We sat in the shade with our two white breads. I will really miss these fresh coconuts for 50 Baht (equivalent to 1.50€). At 1:30 pm, we returned our scooter, a 125 cc Honda, and took the free hotel shuttle to the pier. The ferry from Seatran departed at 3 pm, followed by a shuttle to Koh Samui Airport. Unfortunately, Marius didn't feel well during the ride, he started feeling sick already on the floating ferry pontoon, poor thing, and it lasted for 2 hours on rough sea. But at the airport, he felt better again. Koh Samui is a really small and nicely designed airport, more like a small exclusive shopping center. Since we ordered a sandwich to go on Koh Samui, we had it right before departure, even though it wasn't as expected. The sandwich was in two disposable containers and the ingredients were all mixed up. We had to figure out how to assemble the sandwich without a knife. I'm not sure if it's always intended to be like that, but they brought us the sandwich as 'eat in' first and ignored our marked 'take away' option. Well, the sandwiches tasted okay, but the ingredients were a bit dry and the unsliced meatballs didn't fit on one slice of bread. Luckily, the airline Bangkok Airways provided a small free snack and drinks of our choice at the airport. Because I couldn't eat the later meal on the plane due to its spiciness, even the rice underneath the neutral chicken sauce caused me to cough. After an hour and a few minutes, we landed again in Bangkok Shuravumbi (or something like that). Since it was already 10 pm, we just had to take a taxi, go to the hotel, and sleep, because even though it was a travel day, we were very tired. We fell asleep around 11:30 pm. On November 11, 2019, our last day of vacation, we spent some more time in Bangkok. And believe it or not, we might be air-conditioned because we didn't find it as hot as in the beginning, even when we were walking around. We visited the temple Wat Arun and the shopping center Central World. Unfortunately, we didn't find any shoe bargains in the latter, so we had to bring our broken Nikes back home. In the evening, there was a festival of lights all over Thailand, and we watched it a bit in Lumpini Park. People placed small boats made of banana leaves and flowers with candles on the lake, making it shine. It looked very nice, although I would have liked to see more candles at once and with a longer burning time. But I don't want to know who had to fish all the trash out of the lake afterwards. When it comes to food, we had a rough time on this day. We went to a crowded restaurant for lunch, thinking we could get something quick, but my Tom Kha Gai soup and Marius' sweet and sour chicken were not enjoyable at all. There was too much sugar in both dishes and my soup had raw ingredients or the ginger seemed old and was very woody. So we returned the food and left the oversweetened shakes, where they didn't understand 'no sugar', as well. What a waste of money. The funniest thing, though, was that the coconut shake I didn't want to drink, they just put it in the fridge for the next customer, as it was, with my straw. Poor next guest. Later on, we had mango sticky rice again at Madam Munsur, where we were sure to get good food, even though it was a tourist area. Before heading to the airport, we also had Pad Thai and shared two different and divided portions of coconut ice cream. Of course, we didn't go shopping, if you believe that. Since we booked the hotel room for one night longer, we could take a relaxed shower after this 25,000 steps day, get ready, pack our bags, and then take an Uber-like taxi to the airport. From there, we flew with Air China to Shanghai at 2:25 am, so in the opposite direction first. We mostly slept during the flight and we actually missed the late-night breakfast. Tragic, because even in our accommodation, the Lucky House Koh San, on Monday morning, they just heated up the frozen fried eggs in the microwave. We definitely won't miss the breakfast and we won't be able to look at eggs for a while since they were served, unwanted on every breakfast. Oh, and we won't be wanting toast in cracker style for a while either. Now we're sitting at the Shanghai airport, waiting for the connecting flight with Air China to Frankfurt. Unfortunately, this time we didn't get an entry stamp because we were taken through some secret transfer paths to the baggage security check. Let's see if I can upload the report, because the internet in China does whatever it wants. Otherwise, I'll post it later, when we set foot on German soil again.

PS: As you can tell from the time, we arrived safely in Germany and are now waiting for the train for another 1.5 hours. Enjoy reading my last report for this vacation.
