After a good night at Ballinderry with Luc and Hilde, we enjoyed our first breakfast in South Africa. The selection was huge, even though only two couples stayed at Ballinderry.
After breakfast, we said goodbye and made our way from Robertson to Sanbona Welcome Lodge. The route took us on R60 to Montagu, where we then switched to R62 towards Barrydale. Today, the TomTom led us directly and accurately to Sanbona Wildlife Reserve. From the main road, we had to travel about 50 km of gravel road, but we arrived at Dwyka (Tented Lodge) shortly after noon. This will be our home for the next 3 days. After a light lunch, we retired to our accommodation and relaxed a bit, while also processing the photos from the previous day.
Shortly before 4:00 pm, our ranger Jordan was waiting for us at the main house. Together with another Swiss person, we went on our first game drive. At the first stop, we saw a male giraffe, in the distance we spotted the first buffalo, and very close by was a large herd of baboons who didn't really notice us. Later, we tried to find a black rhinoceros, but unfortunately our efforts were not successful. However, we did find a pair of lions who were chilling and then slowly became active. After a day with many impressions, we ended the evening with a good dinner. Tomorrow, we will start our next game drive at 5:00 am.
