D19 - Yoga, Running and hiking Kukui trail in Waimea canyon with some surprises

Yoga on the terrace and running to Lydgate Beach in the morning. Already 30 degrees warm and pretty humid.
Driving to Waimea Canyon for the Kukui hike which is about 700 meters in altitude down to a viewpoint with a waterfall and then the same route back up again. We’ve been well prepared both with double water bottles for the heat of the day.
Started hiking down with lots of sun. However, some clouds showed up already on the other side of the canyon.
After nearly an hour into the down hike, it started raining. First, we thought it is a short shower only as it’s usually been. But then the rain became stronger and we decided to turn around and go back up well before getting to the waterfalls. We had about 400 meters in altitude to go back up again.
A few minutes later, the trail was flooded and we were basically hiking up in a waterfall. Our shoes were completely drenched. We even had rocks falling down. The earth of the trail path got muddy and so very slippery!
Without any rest, we returned to the car, completely soaked and wet like cats...
We switched on the AC and heating. Luckily, we had put our beach bag already prepared with as we thought that a nice dip at the beach after a soggy hike would do great!! But now, we just quickly put on bikini and speedo and drove back to the ISO hotel in Kapa’a.
We had to pay the local laundry services a visit, haha and had some dinner at a Mexican restaurant right next to the laundry while it tumble dried. What an adventurous day!!
