Welcome to the America travel blog of the Freie Schule Anhalt!
We would like to take you on our adventure and document our trip to the United States on this blog.
Our group consists of 14 students from the 12th grade of the Freie Schule Anhalt, as well as our English teacher Mrs. Göllnitz and the school principal Mrs. Makk.
Thanks to our English teacher Mrs. Göllnitz, the idea of establishing a German-American exchange arose some time ago. This idea generated great interest and so we set out to find a partner school in America.
Now the time has finally come and we can visit our partner schools, the "Charles City High School" and the "St. Ansgar High School" in Iowa. We will live with host families for the next 14 days and get to know the American language and culture better. We will attend school with our exchange partners and spend leisure time together. Afterwards, we will end the trip with a 4-day stay in Chicago.
This morning, on Friday, October 12, 2018, the journey began at 7:00 a.m. at the Freie Schule Anhalt in Köthen. The school bus took us and our luggage to Berlin Tegel Airport. At 12:15 p.m., it was time to "ready for takeoff" and off we went on the long flight with a short and stressful layover in Amsterdam. Luckily, the journey went smoothly and effortlessly, and we arrived in Minneapolis after a total of 18 hours of travel, exhausted but full of anticipation.
To be continued.... (daily in German and English)
