From Wells Gray, I headed towards the west coast here in BC. Along the way, I made a few stops as I didn't want to drive the whole way in one go. First, I drove through an area with a lot of lakes and then I found a free recreation site at one of the lakes. Recreation sites are scattered all over BC and are free campsites, usually located near a lake or river.
I had the entire recsite to myself and since the weather was great, I spent 2 nights here. The nights were perfect for stargazing even though it was quite cold. But kayaking on the lake was also relaxing in the sun.
Here are a few more impressions of the landscape you pass through to reach the coast. Once I was near the coast, I simply followed the Goldtrail, the road used by the gold miners.
One of the more touristy stops was the hike to Joffre Lakes. Here, you can hike up to three beautiful lakes. All three lakes are at different elevations but are connected by a small river. I first hiked to the third, highest lake. There is a campground on the backside of the lake, and I went further up the mountain for a truly breathtaking view. There were also much fewer people here as most only go to the beginning of the lake.
