On July 29, the day of departure had arrived, and I started my journey to BER Airport at 9 AM.
With plenty of time planned before the flight at 4 PM, the drive was quite relaxed at first...
Until suddenly a traffic jam occurred, costing us about 1 hour. According to the GPS, I should then be at the airport by 3 PM. The problem was that the check-in counter was supposed to close at 3 PM...
So we hurried, and fortunately, I arrived at the airport at 2:50 PM, ran and was able to check in my baggage.
Now I know that I will plan even more time for the way to the airport for my return flight.😄
The rest went smoothly, and luckily no one commented on my carry-on, which was 10kg instead of the allowed 7kg. ;)
The 5 hours to Doha were very relaxing, there were no turbulences, the food was quite tasty, I had a window seat and could watch the sunset. 🌇
In Doha, I had to go to my connecting gate and was very impressed by the airport; there was even a train connecting one side of the airport to the other!
At the gate, I met the other volunteers, and together we flew for another 16 hours, which went by faster than expected with eating, sleeping, watching movies, and starting all over again. ;)
At 3 AM local time, we arrived in Auckland, and after the biosecurity check, a 10-minute walk to the domestic terminal and 4 hours of waiting, we finally took the last flight and landed at 9:30 AM. Upon arrival, we were picked up and taken to the place of deployment, where we checked into our accommodation.
