19.10.2015 Darwin, The Top End

E phatlaladitšwe: 04.05.2019

Arriving in Darwin, the climate seemed surprisingly pleasant to us. As mentioned, we were really afraid that we wouldn't be able to cope here and just wanted to move on.

We spent the days from 19.10. until 23.10. in a caravan park here with a pool =). Since our spot was cheaper with a car on it, we tried sleeping in the tent again, but it was simply hell... after about 3-4 hours of sleep per night, you are really exhausted. One day, we explored the city center, which looks very green and tropical.

Our initial impression of Darwin was just dry, red, and in the middle of nowhere. Darwin is considered the most modern city in Australia and we always thought it would be like Sydney. In just one hour away. In any case, we explored the whole city :-D.

The community of Darwin has built a small lagoon itself so that residents can at least bathe a little more safely. (There are too many crocodiles here) On the way back to the caravan park, we noticed a water park with a huge slide, a dream come true :-D sliding on a huge water slide! So we went there the next day! Unfortunately, the highlight of the water park was really only the slide, there was no pool or anything :-(. Nonetheless, we slid down many times and then went back to the caravan park with the Pool.Am On Thursday, we visited the Mindil Sunset Markets, where there was a variety of food and many things to buy (crocodile leather belts, Aboriginal art, etc.)

At the end of the markets, we watched a whip show that was truly impressive.

Since our journey is supposed to continue towards Cairns on Friday and it is simply 3000 km and there is nothing to see on this route, we decided to find two more people to accompany us and share the fuel costs. We placed a short advertisement on Facebook in the backpacker groups and already found two nice German girls who will join us. They arrived in Australia just 4 days ago.
