Stage 8: Varied Views

E phatlaladitšwe: 05.10.2024

After a restful night, a nutritious porridge, and some pleasant kitchen chatter, I leave Arrifana at half past 8. I want to see the beach nearby, so I take a detour. This initially goes steeply down and then back up. Then I follow the path along the cliffs. Along the way, there are a few campers. It seems to work well here, even though it's not allowed, one of them tells me.
During my snack break, I enjoy a great view and meet four Germans. After a small beach, I venture inland. On a gravel road, I walk through a hilly area with woods and heath until I reach a small local eatery. There, Heike, Waltraud, Alexandra, and Alexander are already sitting - the funny quartet from my snack break. I join them and treat myself to a cheese toast.

My feet already hurt, so I take smaller breaks frequently. It's better going uphill than downhill or on flat ground, so ironically, I am pleased when the path goes slightly uphill. Now I'm slowly heading back to the sea. To my left, I see wooded hills and to my right, the ocean.

From a higher vantage point, I can see where I started today and where I still want to go. Now I'm walking along the top of the cliffs, and in one section, it looks like the bushes have burned.
To top it all off, I walk a bit on a large beach and then through dunes. Then I am in Carrapteira and spend a relaxing evening cooking, eating, talking, and playing guitar.
