A perfect day at Boavista Golf in Lagos

E phatlaladitšwe: 20.11.2024

In the morning, we were once again treated to a beautiful sunrise.

Beautiful sunrise

Today is another golf day for us. We have the pleasure of experiencing the stunning 18-hole golf course at Boavista Golf & Spa Resort in Lagos – and it was a day we surely won't forget anytime soon.

Boavista Golf

We had great flight partners from Ireland again, on a golf course that impresses. The course is not only perfectly maintained but also offers a great mix of challenge and joy of play. With its 18 holes (Par 71), the renowned designer Howard Swan has created a track that appeals to golfers of all skill levels.

Beautiful fairways

We were particularly impressed with hole 6, where you play over a gorge and a wall adds an additional obstacle. Since you can only tee off after the group in front has finished, there tends to be a backup at this hole. This leads to many spectators at the tee, making it a bit challenging to focus solely on the game. You want to succeed!

The gorge to overcome

Also at hole 8, a challenging Par 5, the ball has to be played over the same gorge. We really enjoyed these two holes – we had to prove our full skill here. However, we only succeeded to some extent. Hampi succeeded on holes 6 and 8, and I did on 8 as well.

In designing the course opened in 2002, the natural contours of the terrain were taken into account and the surrounding landscape was excellently utilized, providing a view of rare beauty over Lagos Bay (east) and the Serra de Monchique (north).

View all the way to the Atlantic

The course, divided into two sections, begins with a winding slope at hole 1, Par 4, surrounded by subtropical vegetation and beautiful, harmonious properties. The first 9 holes lead players to the highest point of the resort, where the 9th tee is a mandatory stop for those who want to enjoy the breathtaking panoramic view.

The subsequent holes lead down into an area surrounded by streams, lakes, and picturesque bridges, where the garden facilities are abundant.

Beautiful water hazards

The course offers a variety of attractive and interesting holes, from the first to the last putt on the 18th green. Umbrella pines, almond, fig, palm, and olive trees line the hilly fairways, which wind between water hazards and carefully placed bunkers.

Diversity of trees

The weather couldn't have been better. Brilliant sunshine, no wind, and a temperature that made golfing simply enjoyable. It’s conditions like these that make the Algarve a golf paradise year-round.

We chuckled at the translations of the various signs in German during the round.

Good for a chuckle

After the round, we ended the day in the beautiful clubhouse. With a refreshing drink and a view of hole 18, as well as the sun slowly setting on the horizon.

Our conclusion, Boavista Golf is a highlight and we highly recommend it. The combination of challenging play, a dreamlike setting, and first-class facilities makes this golf course a must for anyone visiting the Algarve.
