Rain doesn't always follow sunshine

E phatlaladitšwe: 19.11.2018

What can I say about our night in the year 1900? After I had settled down in my jogging pants, sleep shirt, and socks, with my fleece towel on the pillow, I'm glad the night is over. I think Carsten feels the same way because he's eager for breakfast and to leave. The breakfast was as expected simple, with toast and jam. Very continental. Luckily, we still have cheese, ham, and salami from our self-catering time. Yesterday, I found that our landlord is a strange bird with a creepy dialect. Something like when a real Bavarian tells us something. You can't understand anything.

Today, during breakfast, Rodger made an effort - and behold, we could understand him. It makes him more likeable. And so we chatted about the excessive use of plastic and the state of the world's oceans. And Rodger said that the penguin population is declining, which has something to do with the haddock, he said.

Weather-wise, Oamaru is showing its good side today. We take advantage of that to stretch our legs before our 3.5 hour drive.

First stop, a museum, the Steampunk Headquarters.

An exhibition of artworks made from scrap.

The presentation of the art objects is based on the Victorian era's view of the future. But everything is a bit creepy and Frankenstein-like.

With a musty smell and you'll get goosebumps.

And what we absolutely have to buy today is an umbrella.

💡A few facts about Oamaru. Founded in 1853, it has the most impressive historic overall complex of Victorian buildings in New Zealand.

Currently, it is home to approximately 13,000 residents, as well as the yellow-eyed penguins and the little blue penguins, which are only found here worldwide.

After we found an umbrella and a souvenir, we set off for Wanaka, which is 3.5 hours away. As soon as we left Oamaru, it started raining.

On the left side of the road, it looks like this

On the right, it looks like this

And further on, it looks like this.

And at some point in the middle, it starts to .....

We reach Wanaka, at the foot of the New Zealand Alps.

Our lodge is slightly out of town. A great estate. The view from our bed is amazing.

And the best part, Wanaka has 2 Frisbee Golf Courses. And even though it's raining and freezing, we go out to throw a few baskets before dinner.

After an hour, we are wet and frozen, still not better, but happy. Throw something between our jaws

and fall into the cozy bed. What more could you want.

But there's one thing I can think of ...... better weather.
