What a day! This morning I was woken up by André, who unfortunately didn't sleep well at all. Yesterday evening he slipped on the wet meadow and twisted both feet so badly that they swelled up extremely and he couldn't walk, not even remotely. So, off to the doctor. At the reception, they referred us to the nearby pharmacy, they could help us. So, Robby and I went there and described our problem in English. The nice ladies there immediately recommended an ambulance and passed on the matter in Norwegian. However, there was no ambulance or medical transport available, so we called a taxi. That's how I arrived at the ambulance with André around 10 am, while Robby and Calvin stayed at the campsite. After 2 hours of waiting in a freezing waiting room, we finally saw the doctor. She asked what happened and felt the feet, but couldn't determine if anything was broken or what was wrong. Therefore, she sent us to a hospital with an X-ray station. Since she was the only available doctor in the ambulance, she was quickly called to an emergency and only told us that she would send the clinic her report when the emergency is over. She told us to go to the hospital and wait there until the report arrives. At the reception, a taxi was ordered for us to the clinic, but please pay first!
When we arrived at the clinic, we were sent from A to B, which is not easy with a man who can't walk. Eventually, a wheelchair was provided for us and I felt like I was part of the nursing service. The report still hadn't arrived after 2 hours, so a nurse finally looked at the feet and gave the order for an X-ray. That was done in 5 minutes. Then we waited again for the evaluation. A nice young doctor examined the images and thankfully concluded that nothing was broken! It's probably just a bruise, strain, or sprain. Patience and ibuprofen for the pain should be enough, a support bandage and a pair of crutches, and then wait for the pain and swelling to subside. Since it was already past 3 pm, we couldn't pay the bill on the spot, it will be sent to our home by mail. Let's see if and when it arrives. In the end, we spent almost 6 hours mostly waiting, but it's not as bad as we thought. However, André can't hike or drive a car now. It's a good thing Robby is here.
He also took care of us being allowed to stay for another night at the campsite, as the check-out was supposed to be at 12 o'clock. He and Calvin also made the most of this rain-free day by exploring the town of Haugesund. There wasn't much to see, but they had a little companion. Somehow, a little dog found the two of them quite likable and wanted to go for a walk with them. But somehow, it didn't want to go back to its owner or home. Despite their efforts, our two boys couldn't figure out where the little creature belonged. So, they knocked on a house where the dog first encountered them and got help from a nice gentleman. He first contacted an animal shelter, but no dog was missing there, so he called the police. They said that if the dog is not being searched for, he should call back later, and then they will pick it up. So, the problem was solved for Robby and Calvin, and they could continue to explore the town a bit more.
Now, all 4 of us have come together again and are sitting in our glass living room playing cards. Tomorrow, we will already head a good distance in the direction of home. We had already booked the ferry from Kristiansand to Hirtshals for Friday morning, let's see how things continue until then.
