Wow, we didn't expect that! The only national park in Portugal is clearly one of the most beautiful places we have visited in the country.
We are staying at a small campsite near the village of Gerês. We are thrilled because besides the fact that the campsite is very nicely located, there is also a 2-month-old Labrador puppy named Zeus living here (the joy is mainly on Jonas' side).
Episode 12: Hiking in Peneda-Gerês National Park
On the first day, hiking is on the agenda. After breakfast, we hike up the Pedra Bela Trail. The app 'Alltrails' gives top ratings to this hike, so our expectations are accordingly high.
The higher we go, the rockier and more beautiful the trail becomes until we are only walking on polished rock slabs. The trail follows a small creek, which has formed natural pools every few meters inviting us to swim. The landscape is spectacular. After a shorter descent, we discover a waterfall that cannot be seen from the trail. We are the only people around and gratefully jump into the cool water for a refreshing swim. The way back to the campsite is a bit long, and we arrive at the campsite with tired legs but many impressions.
Episode 13: Canyoning at Cascato do Arado
On the next day, we do a canyoning tour at the largest waterfall in the region and experience thrills in a breathtaking environment.
