5. Second day in Krakow history lesson

E phatlaladitšwe: 20.03.2023

On the second day, I ventured out of the city again. After my proper breakfast (with eggs and very cheap Heinz beans *-*) I picked the next piece of nature on Google Maps and walked there. It was uphill forever, and when I reached a walled hill, I had to pay an entrance fee to get up there, pff... I only walked through the accompanying museum, which didn't interest me at all, and finally reached the top of the hill.

There, I had a wonderful view of the city. When you travel alone, you actually have the problem that you can't take good photos of yourself in deserted places. But with a self-timer and , I managed to take some photos, including, unintentionally, this very beautiful one ☺️

Afterwards, I had to hurry to my guided tour of Jewish history. Krakow is historically so interesting. More interesting than any history lesson could be.

It began with stories about King Kazimierz, who invited the Jews into the city but had to kick them out again under pressure from the church. At least he named the Jewish quarter (formerly a separate city/) after himself. We visited a former synagogue, heard stories about Chez Helena, the most successful woman of her time, photographer Jan Karski, or saw locations from Schindler's List. He also criticized the depiction of Schindler and questioned his motives, but with the quote from the Auschwitz Museum, he tied it all together again. I can't reproduce it correctly, but it said that every life saved is valuable. For whatever reason.

Finally, the guide led us from the Jewish quarter to the former ghetto, and the stories there triggered the same emotions in me as the Jewish cemetery in Prague. I can't understand the people who did such things. Once again, these thoughts came up in me that we must do everything in our power to prevent something like this from happening again... On the way back from the tour, I got to see a beautiful sunset, which calmed my nerves again.

At home, the two cats, Alvero and Christina, were already waiting. We played a few games, took photos, I tried Chilean Pisco, and I managed a trick shot in Jenga.

Then I wanted to explore the nightlife and joined a hangout. I went to the pub and found no one there. I waited a whole 45 minutes, wrote and called the people, but no proper answer. Terrible... I was very frustrated. Luckily, a friend of mine texted me, and on the way home, we talked on the phone, and I let out my frustration. I just hate it when my time is disrespectfully wasted! Time to sleep. Tomorrow will be a better day 😊
