Tag 171: Hrunalaug Hot Spring

E phatlaladitšwe: 14.01.2024

A relaxing trip to the Hrunalaug Hot Spring was planned for today. I set off from the farm around twelve o'clock.

After an hour and a half I arrived at the parking lot, although I accidentally drove past at first because the parking lot was relatively small. Next to the parking lot there was a small hut with a cash register and two toilets. At the checkout I had to pay 2000 isk (approx. 13€) and was given a wristband with a number so that not too many people went in at the same time. I then changed in the toilet and from there there was a small path that led to the hot spring after 2 or 3 minutes.

There you could then leave your belongings and clothes in a small hut. There were three pools in total. A relatively large one, a slightly smaller one, and a very small one that you could stand in, but was barely big enough for you to stretch out both arms. You could sit relaxed in the two larger pools. The surroundings were absolutely beautiful and I was completely alone for the first half hour. The sun shone perfectly between the mountains and it was really beautiful and relaxing. Then two girls came along, but they stayed in the other pool. After a while a family came with three or four children and three adults. One of the adults had complete camera equipment with him and took professional photos of the children. Then I went out, which wasn't that easy. The water was easily 30/35 degrees and outside it was around zero degrees. Getting dressed was really cold.

The way back to the farm was really tiring. Since the sun never gets that high here, driving without sunglasses isn't great anyway, but on the way back it was just before sunset, so sometimes I even had to stop in small parking spaces next to the road because I couldn't see five meters ahead . Despite a few breaks, I arrived back at the farm safely.

At dinner I caused quite a discussion when I said that I had to pay entry because the hot spring was probably free until a few years ago.

See you then
