November 7, 2019 Carnival in Cartagena

By chance, we found out that today is Carnival in Cartagena. We followed the crowd that led to the parade route. On the way there, we slowly realized what we had gotten ourselves into. People were spraying foam from large spray cans and smearing each other's faces and everywhere else with paint. We were not spared from it either. There was a critical moment where we thought a mass panic would break out. The entrance to the spectator area was a bottleneck where people pushed through. Suddenly, the police on their horses ran through, which caused a bit of commotion. They also hit some people, which made the crowd even more angry. Fortunately, it didn't escalate further and we were able to continue walking peacefully and watch the parade.
