Drive through the Aosta Valley in the rain

E phatlaladitšwe: 17.07.2019

As sunny and warm as it was yesterday, it is cold and wet today... it rained heavily overnight and there is fresh snow on the mountain slopes like powdered sugar. Now I understand why the little donkey foal has such a fluffy coat!

We say goodbye to Cervinia with a hint of sadness, it was beautiful here, I think we were the only non-Italians here 😁👍🏻

It's not raining, but the mountain pass down to the valley is still wet and it's really really cold! Once we reach the bottom, we get on the highway to get to Lake Como faster. The country road through the Aosta Valley is boring and feels like it's made up of a thousand roundabouts. You can also see the many beautiful castles along the valley from the highway.

Unfortunately, it starts raining heavily on the highway too, once again we have to put on our rain gear, annoying but at least we stay dry and warm.

Italian highways with their toll booths are no fun on a scooter. It's cumbersome to get a ticket, eventually insert the ticket and pay, preferably with the exact change and all dressed in rain gear and thick gloves. Then I have to pay 22 euros, Hajo pays 28 euros. Hello??? Same route, same vehicle class, same time??? Then at the next toll booth, it's 3.20 euros prepaid. Again, it's cumbersome to dig out money...

Eventually, the rain stops, it gets warmer again and the sun comes out. We check into our hotel in Lecco, right on the lakeside promenade, and enjoy a wonderful Italian evening with pizza, wine, and a cheesy sunset 😍
