Monday, October 25, 2021 – Day 1
The trip was actually planned for August 2020 and the hotel and flight had already been booked, but Covid19 got in the way. So we had to postpone and rebook. So it was the fall break of 2021, which is also OK.
We travelled comfortably to Vienna by car at 9am and parked the car in parking garage 4. Lisa and I arrived at Terminal 3 for boarding at 12.30am via endless taxiways. We flew with AUA from Vienna Schwechat to Paris Charles De Gaulle, VIE-CDG. The flight was problem-free in good weather and we immediately got a weekly ticket for the metro (Pass Navigo Découverte for all zones 1-5, own passport photo required), as this also allows us to take the RER B from CDG into the city (approx. 35 minutes to Gare du Nord).
Paris is perfectly connected by metro lines, you just have to get an overview and keep track of things. So we take line 4 to Saint-Placide to the Best Western Aramis Saint Germain in the 6th arrondissement. The room is not very big, but it is clean and comfortable. And down on the corner is the bar Le Trait d'Union , where we have a bite to eat and I decide that this will be my living room for the next few days.
We set off on an exploration tour through Paris at night and are amazed by the beauty here. We pass the burned-out and enclosed Notre Dame and head to Pont Neuf, the Louvre and the Arc de Triomphe. The rats hijack the rubbish bins by the side of the road, but otherwise the atmosphere is wonderful and the temperature is pleasant. We send a heart to our sweetheart who stayed at home and after 15,000 steps we go to bed at 10.
