We have reached our first destination and landed in sunny and warm Lima with a slightly delayed flight.
Almost 9 million inhabitants - there is a lot going on here. On one hand, there is a crazy amount of traffic, non-stop honking, crowded streets, stuffy and dirty neighborhoods, but on the other hand, there are very helpful people, beautifully laid out parks, incredibly delicious food, street art, and of course, the ocean right after the impressive cliffs.
In our two days in Lima, we visited the center with Plaza San Martin, Plaza de Armas, several parks, and churches. We also explored the beautiful neighborhood of Miraflores and were very impressed. The cliffs leading to the beach with many surfers, the huge Larcomar shopping center right on the cliffs by the sea, and we also discovered the culinary delights of Peru. We had the traditional Ceviche, Inca Cola, and Churros - definitely not the last time. Everywhere there are small food stands with delicious smells, large markets with all kinds of fruits, spices, and many dead animals ... eww.
After exploring the Barrancos neighborhood - lots of street art and colonial houses - we took a night bus for about 8 hours to Huaraz in the Andes.
We are excited to see what awaits us here.
