Day 2: Downhill and then flat

E phatlaladitšwe: 14.07.2023

After a hearty breakfast, I start in Abensberg at 8:30 am. The bike path to Kelheim is quickly found, and it goes downhill. This is fun cycling. Kelheim is getting ready for a town festival. Quickly take a picture and continue on the D-Route 11, one of 12 long-distance bike routes that run across Germany. Now it is flat until the stage destination in Beilngries. The path always stays close to the Main-Danube Canal, there are now rest areas that I make use of. After yesterday's effort, I want to take it easy. I look somewhat nostalgically at the rocks, a popular climbing area. I used to climb myself, but not here. It's noticeably busier than yesterday, the area is a popular cycling area.

In Riedenburg, I hesitate briefly when I see the sign for the beer garden of the Riedenburger Brewery: only 150 meters. I enjoy their organic beer at home from time to time. But the path turns off before that. Phew! I continue along the Altmühl river, pass Dietfurth. It's not far to the destination Beilngries anymore. Quickly booked accommodation through booking.com - today I need security - and I can quickly get to my room at the Brauereigasthof Schattenhofer. My odometer shows 68 km. That was the approximate distance I planned for.

Beilngries is getting ready for the old town festival, unfortunately starting tomorrow. Have something to eat, take a first walk through the town and then start blogging.
