Day 50 was again driving until noon, then a break at a picnic area near the Meteora monasteries. We stayed here later in the evening. In between, we visited the monasteries. It is such a great atmosphere, but unfortunately there are too many Homo sapiens. The monasteries are located in the interior of the country and what is special about them is that they are built on high sandstone cliffs. They are connected by small hiking paths. Often, you have to walk several flights of stairs to reach the entrance. Of course, they are part of the World Heritage and I can recommend them to everyone. I think it is something unique. This time we did not visit them from the inside. We have already done that twice. And since I am traveling with Ripa the mountain man, it's not that good anyway. When we were here for the first time in 2001, we stayed between the monasteries, that's how I want to remember it, because it was a great atmosphere. But it's understandable that everyone wants to see this complex as well. Last night we sat together with a German couple with a child and chatted a bit. We also got some tips for Albania. This morning, we continued driving to the Vikos Gorge in the Pindos Mountains. A freezing cold river where we took a leisurely stroll. Then a quick dip in the cool water.
