After a total of nine days of driving pause, I started heading north with a niggling calf to finally get back to the coast. Fortunately, on Sundays, the city traffic in Athens was limited. North of Athens, you can't avoid a few meters of altitude, and the ride mostly runs parallel to the highway. Since most motorists use this, I had the old country road largely to myself. In the early afternoon, I was warmly welcomed in Nea Palatia at the café. The owner had lived in Munich before and wanted to refresh her knowledge of German. Near Chalkida, I wanted to head for a campsite on the beach, which was of course closed (who would have thought?). But the beach itself was too crowded for wild camping, so I went a few more kilometers until I reached the vicinity of Loukisia, where I was able to make myself comfortable in a field with olive trees. Dinner had to be skipped again because nothing nearby was open.
