After four wonderful and sunny days on Koh Sichang, it was time to say goodbye to the little island. So we packed our backpacks again and got into our host's vehicle, who took us to the pier. After a short boat ride of about an hour, we were back on the mainland and faced the question: What now? Since we had already experienced the adventure of 'directionless taxi drivers', we decided to take the bus to Bangkok and then continue to the airport by Skytrain. So we looked for the bus and after a short walk (and a slightly longer tuk-tuk ride), we found the bus station. After some 'Bangkok?' 'Yes, yes Bangkok', we quickly found the right bus and spent the next two hours enjoying the scenery and later the outskirts of Bangkok. We don't quite remember what happened in between, as we were so grateful to be sitting in an air-conditioned bus that we immediately fell asleep. But our little action camera was running, so we'll catch up on it someday^^.
In total, after about 5 hours, one transfer, and a waffle, we finally arrived at the airport and could relax in the plane after an interesting check-in (if you define a seating position of 90 degrees and a legroom of 2 cm as relaxing for dwarfs like Chantall ;)). Finally, we were in Singapore! We had already spent a few days in Singapore last year and now had the choice of either going back to Gardens by the Bay or visiting the highly praised zoo. Anyone who has already received photos from us knows what we decided for. However, it was only 11 p.m. and we still needed some sleep. The airport in Singapore is truly the most amazing one we have seen so far. You could eat around the clock (Tobi's McDonald's nose managed to get us a burger), admire a terrace with about 200 sunflowers, and above all, watch movies. So we strolled casually in 'hoodie mode' through the airport, made ourselves comfortable in the cinema with a full stomach, and ultimately watched current blockbusters half the night (yes, maybe not the best idea considering that we wanted to spend the next day in the zoo. But that's what 'Tomorrow-Tobi' and 'Tomorrow-Chantall' should take care of).
The Singapore Zoo is a bit further outside the city center, but with a bit of train riding and a short bus ride (in a nicely decorated zoo bus), you can quickly reach your destination. After just a few steps, we knew we had made the right decision. The zoo is truly beautiful. The words 'Wow', 'Oh look there', and 'Oh how cute...I want one too!' were definitely among our top 10 that day. From little otters and turtles to cheetahs and elephant-like elephants, we could truly admire everything. We were able to stroke lemurs and examine bats up close, and we watched a great elephant show. And Chantall's phone now has about 200 more animal photos....some of which you can see above.
Eventually, 'Today-Tobi' and 'Today-Chantall' started to feel a bit weak, so we headed back to the airport in the early evening and after a bit of waiting, we were already on the next flight to the Gold Coast. And the first view from above filled us with anticipation: endless beaches, a flawlessly blue sky, and a bunch of 'beach babes' (quote Tobi) and 'beach boys' (quote Chantall)....but more about this in the next post (regarding the beaches and the sky...not the beach babes and boys!)
