From Obersteinbach to ....

From Obersteinbach to -

Based on the weather forecast this morning, it's not entirely clear what the appropriate clothing would be. After all, it's supposed to be over 14 degrees - with overcast skies. Or maybe a few rain showers on the other side of the Rhine? So an umbrella can't hurt and I decided not to bother with sunscreen.

The destination was to be Obersteinbach in Alsace. There was a group of painters from Grötzingen who dedicated themselves to landscape painting. Similar to Worpswede near Bremen.

The painter Franz Hein set up a painting school for young ladies. Somewhat unusual for that time (1896 to 1918), they lived and painted in and around the village. Today there is a circular hiking trail where photos of the ladies can be seen. Village life at that time is also shown.

There are beautiful half-timbered houses in the town. And there are also good restaurants. There are parking spaces for electric cars as well as a bicycle charging station where electric bikes can be charged and small repairs can be carried out if necessary. Right next to it there is a free public and very clean new toilet that is also suitable for people with disabilities. Exemplary!

The associated building is currently being extensively renovated and has already received a very beautiful ceiling painting.

Then on to Schweigen-Rechtenbach on the wine route. There were so many cars in the first parking lot that there was no room for us. The second parking lot was smaller and also quite full. So I assumed - naive as I am - that there must be a town festival or something similar going on there. But that wasn't the case. No old town, no town festival! The crowds from all parts of Germany (even from Hamburg) and France were only there to look at the WEINTOR and maybe buy some wine. But in any case, to try wine, coffee, Palatinate specialties and cakes. At least there was also MATJES - which is of course very surprising for a northerner visiting the Palatinate.

We decided to have coffee and cake and didn't regret it. It was a fun trip and we passed through places we would never have heard or read about otherwise.

See you soon
