Day 39 - From Kauai to Maui, a short story

Gepubliceerd: 22.12.2016

6:40 AM the alarm clock rings, my body says stay in bed, but my mind says get up. I turn over twice and then get up a bit shaky. A short walk to the bathroom and quickly I put on my travel clothes. Breakfast is already prepared, it was served yesterday in wise foresight. But I'm not hungry, what a nonsense... So I pack my suitcase and backpack and then force myself to eat a few bites. At least the bread from yesterday still tastes excellent. Shortly after, I'm sitting in the car and racing towards Lihue Airport. Dropping off the car and checking in goes quickly. Now I'm already sitting in the airport cafe, without coffee mind you, and writing Christmas cards. My Boeing 717 towards Maui takes off promptly at 10:53 AM. 29 minutes later, my plane already lands in Kahului, a bit too early perhaps, because it has to wait for about 10 minutes to roll to the gate. Meanwhile, my luggage is already rolling on the conveyor belt when I arrive. Picking up the car goes quite quickly, it's the same one as before in Kauai, just a different number...

Now my stomach finally speaks up. Fortunately, the security control let me take half the kitchen with me, so I have bread, boiled eggs, and jam for lunch. After a half-hour drive, I reach my destination and the place to stay for the next 8 days. My apartment in Honokowai is right by the ocean and very cozy, it's a good place to live. For dinner, I want to have a pizza, but not an American frozen pizza, no, a homemade one. The Americans apparently don't know this, as I can't find the dough anywhere in the grocery store. However, my friend Google knows recipes and shortly thereafter the pizza dough is made.

After a swim in the ocean, I finally get to have the long-awaited 'Hawaii Special' pizza, without pineapple... The 'homemade' chocolate cream for dessert, which turns out to be pudding, is something for the garbage disposal - that's how my American friends deal with leftovers. A long day comes to an end and I look for sleep in the 'loft bed', for once without the rooster crowing - but with the sound of the ocean.

By the way, can you figure out the name of my new car...?

What is our car called?
