My last stage on the PCT ends at Echo Lake. Together with Minnesota Jacko and his wife Marilyn, I stay for two more nights in a house near Lake Tahoe. There I finally see a long-awaited bear with three playful cubs.
Then I take a flight to Las Vegas for one night. It is the absolute contrast to the PCT. I play a few rounds of Black Jack and win a handful of dollars at the hotel casino.
The next morning, with PCT hikers Paco and Melanie, I drive in a rental car to the Grand Canyon in Arizona. The view from the southern rim to the canyon is impressive. I would love to go hiking down into the canyon and to the Colorado River. But it's already too late and the high temperatures are hardly bearable even above the canyon. I think I have to come back again...
