Day 68+69 Vermosh -Ulcin Nochmal Beach Life

At the Vermosh campsite, we had a nice evening with the 2 people from the Munich bus. The hostess was super friendly. She is about 30 years old and has been running the campsite with her family for 6 years. Very pleasant here. Vermosh itself has a few houses, but wow, it has an elementary school with a total of 35 children. Learning here is surely relaxed.

Now a brief explanation about the many bunkers that are still standing everywhere in the country. They date back to the years 1972-1984. The former dictator had about 200,000 of them built throughout the country out of fear of invasion by other countries. At that time, Albania was still communist.

Since we left Albania yesterday, here is a brief summary:

Traffic: Driving a car for us foreigners is rather exhausting.

Defensive driving = foreign word.

Overall, we were pleasantly surprised by the condition of the roads. Except for the road from Koman to Shkodra. And a bit of gravel road. But we chose that ourselves.

We didn't like the south as much, the coast is too crowded for our taste.

We really liked the Albanian Alps in the north, as well as the ferry ride from Fierza to Koman. There was only one negative thing for Burki: it was too cold for him at night. The stiffness increases then.

Wild camping: We had no problems, but we also found it okay on the small rural campsites. After all, families make a living from it and we are happy to support that. They were always very nice hosts.

I had a lot of trouble with the language, I couldn't even remember the simplest words. But a smile 😇 always works.

We didn't visit any cities. You know, it's just not our thing. But there will be one exception soon, at least for me.

In the remote mountain villages, you get the feeling that time has stood still here. But it's always nice to feel that simplicity works too.

Yesterday, on the recommendation of a German, we drove to the beach of Ulcinj in Montenegro. Here too, we had to drive through mountain regions with narrow, winding roads for a long time. Very sparsely populated. Ulcinj itself is a coastal town and, as often happens here, it is very lively. We are staying on a stretch of beach where there is no permanent construction. Just a few beach bars and many kite surfing spots. There are 3 other campers here, all very nice people. The sand was a challenge for two of them. Burki was in his element again. We didn't bring the equipment for nothing.
