We spent the last two nights at a holiday park, which was only 300m away from the Whangarei Falls. On the way there from Waipapakauri, we of course stopped at the supermarket to pick up our cooler packs and to buy our favorite apples, rolls, and more. Then we had breakfast at a small rest area and drove to the Kauri Forest, where we made a stop at the 4th oldest tree in the world. To be able to admire it, we had to go through a shoe cleaning station beforehand, so that we don't bring in any soil particles that could weaken the Kauri tree. After that, we drove to the holiday park and in the evening, we went to do laundry and took a quick look at the waterfalls before cooking noodles. The next morning, we armed ourselves with a headlamp and drove to the Abbey Caves. There, we descended/climbed/crawled into the Ivy Cave and got to see glow worms (of course only inside where it was dark and when the headlamp was off!). After that, we drove to the city center of Whangarei and took a walk and strolled through a market. Then we took a short lunch break at the holiday park and then went for another slightly longer walk at the Whangarei Falls. In the evening, we prepared Toast Hawaii and planned the next few days. Now we're heading to Raglan to a small guesthouse.
