The way to Machu Picchu

प्रकाशित: 15.01.2017

We decided on the 2-day option to Machu Picchu with an overnight stay in Aguas Calientes, a small town named after the presence of thermal springs.

The journey took approximately 2 hours in a minivan to Ollantaytambo and another 2 hours in a comfortable panoramic train to Aguas Calientes.

This place is located at 'only' 2090m and it did us a lot of good.

Since tourists here spend at most one day, the demand to attract long-term customers is accordingly low.

Still, we spent a very pleasant day here and enjoyed not getting short of breath at the slightest exertion.

There is also a nice little market here, where besides delicious fruits and vegetables, especially appealing silver jewelry is offered, characterized by the symbols of the Incas.

Since Peter was still not feeling completely well, we decided to take the bus to Machu Picchu.

We were really lucky with our guide Richard, who is of indigenous descent himself, and who brought in highly interesting philosophical aspects in addition to exciting facts.

We were both highly impressed, the atmosphere there is simply hard to describe. What is certain, however, is that our expectations were certainly exceeded.

In the evening, we returned to Cusco for one more night and then continued our journey to Puno by bus the next day.
