Enough of gold mines in the Outback, now it was time to head back to Kalgoorlie and continue south towards the coast. That was a day's journey without much to see (except for the camels in the roundabout of Norseman).
First destination on the coast was Cape Le Grand National Park east of Esperance with its spectacular almost chalk-white beaches. There is even a 22 km beach track, and that in a national park. Australians just love adventure: I would have liked to try that. But it can only be done with four-wheel drive, with our campervan we wouldn't have gotten very far. So we enjoyed the beaches on foot and took a hike to Frenchman Peak, where we had a magnificent view.
We camped in the national park at one of the two small campsites and had a great spot overlooking the bay. On the second night, the weather turned really bad (it had been cold the whole time), there was a storm and rain. There was no sleep, our campervan was rocking and the rain was pounding on the plastic roof. I thought the whole night that the thing would tip over... but everything stayed intact. This is not how we imagined the weather in Australian spring.
