Blog 6: Karuna Falls Ecovillage

Far away from any bigger town, in the 'outback of NZ',  we found our way over gravel roads to a small ecovillage. Marama and me went there to celebrate Bärbel's 70th birthday. She is an old friend of Marama's mum.

Only a few people live in the ecovillage in little houses that they all built by themselves. Also there is a big community hall with a kitchen and a living room in which we celebrated the birthday. For the birthday some more friends of Bärbel arrived, most of them dropouts with German background and interesting life stories.

The birthday was a big potluck (everyone brings food) with the whole community and I was surprised to see so many children.

In total, we stayed three nights and enjoyed the calmness and loneliness of the place. We did a short hike to the starting point of the Karuna Falls, visited all the houses around, participated in a children's day, drove to a beach near by, and made experiences with the compost toilets.

That village seems like a perfect place to find peace from the chaos
