Since Friday I'm out of the hostel and officially a couchsurfer. That means I stay for free on strangers' couches.
The guy I'm staying with is pretty cool. He doesn't have to work because he's such a smart guy and has enough money. I think he could afford a cleaner with that. I never thought I would live like this.
There are also two other girls living here. They each have their own room and pay rent. Fortunately, I got the room of one of them yesterday. For free. Because she sleeps at the host's place. I'll spare you the details😅
Apart from it being quite dirty and messy, the people here are really cool, funny, and helpful.
Yesterday I went to the largest animal rights march in Australia, the Dominion March. Thousands of vegans 😍 When I arrived home late and completely exhausted, all I wanted was to sleep, but instead we had a movie night that I wasn't really in the mood for. But what can you do when the couch is your bed?! In the end, we ended up chatting until three in the morning.
Today it continued directly, I participated in the Cube, just like in Frankfurt. It was great, but also exhausting with so many people and impressions.
Afterwards, I relaxed for a long time by the Yarra in the sun. Completely at peace.
I'm slowly getting the jet lag under control and my appetite is coming back.
Tomorrow I'll probably cycle to St Kilda Beach. I don't know what the rest of the week will bring....
I'll definitely stay here in the place until I get my bank card, no later than 7.5.
It probably all sounds good and exciting and fun, but in real life it can be quite difficult and have ups and downs. And yes, I know, I chose this.
Living without a plan (do I want to go to Bali, or first travel Australia, or maybe work) is great, but also takes some getting used to. On the one hand, I expect to immediately find great people and go out with them, on the other hand, I don't feel like I've really arrived yet and I prefer to be alone. So I sit in the city and enjoy the street musicians, who are really amazing here! Or the street art. Or the vegan AND gluten-free food 😍
I try to take everything as it comes. Whether I feel good or bad at the moment. Because that's exactly what I wanted.
But I still can't believe that I'm really here.
