On the day after our visit to Movie World, we went to the Waterpark Wet'n'Wild. It was on the way and we could also take a shower there. We were also hoping that the "Surfrider" would be open again so we could try it again, but we were out of luck: it was still closed. Instead, we went down the looping slide a few times and went down some tube slides before all the park attractions closed due to an approaching storm. But by then it was already shortly after 4, so we didn't want to wait to see if the slides would potentially reopen before 5, and instead we went to take a shower and continued driving south.
Our overnight spot was a rest area that was already in the state of New South Wales, so we had to set our clocks an hour ahead. Now we have a time difference of 10 hours compared to Germany! Plus, it was quite unusual that it would be light for an hour longer. Instead of getting dark at 6:30, it now gets dark at 7:30. It's actually great to have a bit more daylight!
The next morning, we drove back north a bit because there was supposed to be a nice surf beach in Coolangatta (the last town before the border). But first, we went to the visitor center in Tweed Heads (the first town after the border) to find out about the weather conditions and the rental prices for surfboards. It turned out that the rental prices were quite high and the weather wasn't cooperating either. Dark clouds were moving in and it was fairly cold. So we abandoned our surfing plans and instead drove to a beautiful lookout where we could watch other surfers and the ocean while having our Domino's pizza for lunch. Before that, we went to Boundary Street in the city, which represents the border between Queensland and New South Wales. There was a border stone where you could stand in between and be in two different time zones at the same time. Queensland doesn't have daylight saving time, but New South Wales does, so there is currently a one-hour time difference between the states. It's crazy when your neighbor has a different time than you do :D
After lunch, which was already at 2:30, we headed back south. We arrived at a rest area around 4, which was quite nice, and we spent the rest of the afternoon playing card games and watching the movie "Hercules". We thought it was perfect movie weather and were looking forward to sitting comfortably in the car when the sun actually came out and blinded us from the front. Why couldn't it have come out in the morning when we wanted to go surfing? The weather really fooled us. But never mind, the evening was still lovely and the next morning after breakfast, we wanted to go to Byron Bay. There is the easternmost point of Australia and of course we wanted to see that. What awaited us in Byron Bay will be in the next entry :)
