After saying goodbye to all the animals, except Christian, we headed to our favorite accommodation in Pucon, Chile.
But first, we had to cross the border again. When entering Chile, we always have a bit of a nervous feeling because there are high fines for bringing in certain food items. Although you can read on the official websites what is not allowed to be imported, the description is so vague that we couldn't make sense of it. Even the Foreign Office website states that you should always check the box on the corresponding form indicating that you are bringing in food items. Then your car will be searched and you will be on the safe side, as anything that is not contested after the search can be imported.
We entered Chile three times in total and each time different things were contested or not. If you're lucky, you can keep your own homemade sandwiches. Since we still had a lot of ham and cheese, the sandwiches were generously filled. The stay at the border is always a source of joy. This time, the highlight was that the border officer criticized our entry form. We accidentally checked the wrong box, which was then crossed out and corrected. However, according to the opinion of the border officer, this was absolutely not allowed. So we had to fill out the very long form again. After another very critical look, we thought we would have to fill it out a third time. Apparently, he didn't feel like searching our car. When we mentioned that we had food with us, he put on his gloves and went outside with us. First, we had to open the hood of the car. When he saw our trunk, he only said very diplomatically, "small car!" This time only the honey had to be left behind. After we had put all our luggage through an X-ray machine again, we were finally allowed to go.
During our last two visits, Heike built up a nearly friendly relationship with our landlady. When we arrived at our accommodation, she warmly greeted us. There was a large bouquet of flowers on the table that the owner had picked especially for Heike. Flora immediately grabbed her favorite cat in the entrance area. She stuffed it with salami. When Christian wanted to make a salami sandwich, Flora just pointed to the cat with a mischievous smile. Since then, Christian and the cat have not been friends. The owner told us that after our last visit, the cat sat on the terrace every day and waited for us. Before our last departure, the owner, who is not a fan of cats, promised to take care of the cat because we had grown so fond of it. That touched us deeply.
Since we were getting hungry, we drove to our favorite supermarket in the hope of getting a pack of sushi. But since today is Sunday, there was no sushi at all. We comforted ourselves with burgers that we prepared in our cabin. And while we were eating, we watched an action movie. Because we had Netflix! A previous guest had logged in with their account and forgot to log out again.
