Dear followers,
we are back with spectacular pictures and experiences!
But what happened?? We won't keep it from you!
Last Wednesday the plane took off for us to Chicago. As Thursday, July 4th is a holiday in the USA, we used the extended weekend for a city trip.
So we had 4 days planned in Chicago. After landing safely, we took the train from the airport to downtown to our hostel on Wednesday evening. After check-in, we went out again briefly to grab something to eat and watch the fireworks. We can only say: It's supposed to be 'amazing', but unfortunately we just missed it because we were eating too long 😂 But since this won't be our last fireworks in the USA, it wasn't that bad.
Thursday morning was the start of the proper city tour. It started from our hostel along the Chicago Riverwalk. Of course, we also took a look at Lake Michigan and strolled along the beach promenade. In the evening, the first highlight of the weekend was already scheduled: it was wavy, wet, and shaky! We kayaked along the Chicago River for 2 hours and could admire the buildings and sights from the water at sunset. A great experience!
A big thank you for this great gift goes out to Nessy, Fabi, and Vreni! It was truly a unique and wonderful experience 😍
Friday was set to be a bit more active for us. Before we got active ourselves, we first cheered on the German national team in a sports bar. Even here in Chicago, there was a lot going on. Both German and Spanish fans were there. Unfortunately, we had to admit defeat to the Spaniards. After the German national team had finished their sport, it was our turn to really get going. We were told from many accounts that we should ride bikes along Lake Michigan. So, on Friday, with the weather at its best, we took the bikes along Lake Michigan (Lakefront Trail). A very beautiful bike path and a great opportunity to not only visit downtown Chicago. After the bike tour, we went up high for the sunset on the Willis Tower. From up there, you have a great view of the whole city! The Willis Tower was even the world's tallest building for over 15 years.
Our Saturday started at 7:30 am with a jogging round at Lake Michigan and along the Chicago River. After breakfast, we headed to the Nascar Race Day. The Nascar Race is a car race that takes place right in Chicago. In addition, there are some bands playing throughout the day. There are also motorcross shows. After being able to watch the start of the car race from the stands, another highlight awaited us in the evening. The Chainsmokers performed a concert at the Nascar Race.
Sunday was our last day in Chicago. In the morning, we took a Free Walking Tour from our hostel. Here, we discovered some new corners of Chicago. Then it was time for lunch, because what can't be missing in Chicago? Exactly, a Deep Dish Pizza. Very tasty! We spent the afternoon on phone calls with friends before heading to the airport. After a 3-hour flight delay, we finally arrived in Pittsburgh at 2:00 am.
Tomorrow we're heading back to the airport. We're flying to San Francisco! Julian will be working there for a week and Tanja will be on vacation exploring San Francisco. We'll check in with you afterwards!
