Day 13 - Stellenbosch

This morning, as announced, we completed our last long journey from Oudtshoorn to Stellenbosch. Stellenbosch is characterized in travel guides by its multitude of historical buildings.

When we arrived at our last accommodation here in South Africa around 2 pm, we quickly settled into our room. Shortly after, we headed to the city center to see for ourselves the historic architecture of this town. And indeed: one impressive house after another. It reminds me a bit of Kühlungsborn... Very European. However, the city centers here are not like in Germany. Rather, the stores are located on different streets or there are large shopping centers. In the former, you automatically get a good view of the area, which I personally prefer. The main goal of our wanderings was 'Uncle Sam's Shop'. This is the first store opened in Stellenbosch (1901). They sell a lot of trinkets as well as regional gift ideas. Very unique 😉

After visiting this curiosity shop, we strolled through other small shops. My favorite was Melissa's Food Shop, with lots of preserved food. Unfortunately, not suitable for transport to Germany...

Tomorrow, we will devote ourselves to the second characteristic of Stellenbosch: the wine region. If the weather permits, we will ride our bikes from our Airbnb to visit some of the approximately 120 (!) wineries and taste wine. So far, the weather forecast looks very good 😎
