Today's stage should now take me to the destination country, Croatia, more precisely to Istria. Today it shouldn't go on highways, but off-road. So I follow the Strada Adriatica (SS14) from Cavallino-Treporti to Monfalcone and then to Trieste. The plain between Jesolo and Monfalcone is mainly shaped by rivers that have flooded the land since the last ice age. It gets exciting after Monfalcone. I get to know the charming coastal road to Trieste, which offers great views again and again. After Trieste, I briefly pass through Slovenia before crossing the border into Croatia at Dragonja. The character of the landscape has changed quickly. Now many hills dominate the landscape, often crowned by picturesque villages that have preserved their original character. What also catches my eye is the red soil, which can be seen on freshly plowed fields.
It has been raining lightly all day, but the journey is still progressing well. Around 5 p.m. I arrive at Vrsar, at Camping Porto Sole. I can choose a pitch and decide on a plot in the forest, close to the reception. The setup is now quite routine and so I soon set off for a little reconnaissance towards Vrsar. Let's see what is possible tomorrow.
Unfortunately, I have just learned that our loyal cat Yaska has taken her last walk today. She was such a lovely, easy-care cat and has accompanied us and our children for almost 20 years. Fortunately, she was able to enjoy her cat life carefree until very recently.
