Island Time In Thailand

Hey folks! ✌

My overday stay in Bangkok had come to an end and in the late evening, I took a bus to the South of Thailand. The ride was once again extremely comfortable but unfortunately two hours shorter than the schedule said so that I had to spend quite a while at the Chumphon ferry terminal. When I finally entered the ferry, daylight was starting to replace darkness and quite soon, I saw my first destination come closer: Koh Tao. I checked into my hostel which couldn't have been any closer to the pier and hired a scooter a bit later to explore the island. During my first two days, I came across some really nice viewpoints and a few nice beaches. For the last day, I booked a snorkeling trip which was definitely worth doing, especially for the low price. The water was so clear and I saw so many colourful and various fish. Just stunning. Unfortunately, I still don't have a go pro 😏 During the trip, we also stopped at Koh Nangyuan, a very small island right next to Koh Tao. There's an amazing viewpoint on that island so I made my way up there as soon as possible. And as you can see from the pictures, the views were absolutely fantastic 😊

In the next morning, I was transferred to Koh Phangan, another nearby island which is world famous for its full moon parties. Unfortunately though, I was there at the wrong time so I missed that legendary party 😢 Before checking into my hostel, I had a quick look around the surrounding area before I once again went to a scooter rental and drove to the South East of the island afterwards. After going the wrong way a couple of times, I finally arrived at a hiking trail which led me up to a small viewpoint. It was already pretty dark but I still had quite a good view over the bay. In the late evening, I met Felix and Melanie, two other Germans, at my hostel. I decided to go and explore the North side of the island whereas with Melanie, I agreed on meeting up again in Bangkok and traveling through Cambodia and Lao together which was great because I had been looking for a temporary travel mate for a while 😊👌 Anyway, in the next morning, I cruised around with Felix a bit before he went to Koh Tao and went on going around the island on my own. I did the same the following day. Koh Phangan is an island with a lot of nature and some magnificent views. I had three great days there. In the next morning, I took a ferry back to Chumphon and a bus from there afterwards. When we had been driving for some minutes, we suddenly stopped literally in the middle of nowhere and were told we had to stay and wait at that place for some three hours. Fantastic! 😟 However, it wasn't that bad as a joined some English people for a card game which made time go by much quicker. When the bus arrived, it was already getting dark outside, and in the morning, we finally reached Bangkok, our destination. As the bus ride hadn't been comfortable at all, I was super tired when I reached my hostel and caught some sleep first. A few hours after me, Melanie and her friend Vera arrived as well, along with some surprising and not very delighting news. Melanie had decided to go home the next day instead of staying and coming with me 😭 I won't tell you anything about the reasons, but I totally understood her decision. What shall I say – you can't always get what you want 😆 Later, I went to Lumphini Park before going back to my place in the evening. I met Melanie and Vera in Khaosan Road and spent some time with them before hanging out at the hostel and talking to some other guests.

In the next morning, I joined a group for a small trip to Ayutthaya, the old capital of Thailand which is famous for its temples. When I saw them, I was impressed indeed. I came back to my hostel in the late afternoon. In the evening, I went for dinner with my German roommates Matthias and Kristina and another German called Fleming. After eating, we decided to go to the Red Sky Bar together. For me, it was the second time up there – a great place to spend my last evening in Thailand 😊 We had a drink together and went back to town afterwards. In the next morning, I had to get up pretty early so I didn't go to bed that late.

In my next post, I will tell you about the first impressions of my second Asian country: Cambodia! I hope you'll all be reading that post as well 😊

Cheers,

Max
