Day 5: Bar Harbor: 06/26/2018

The first settlers called this island Eden, later it was renamed Arcadia. That was actually our impression as well when we looked out at the land in awe from the railing that morning. A beautiful little holiday town, magnificent villas, harmoniously arranged with parks and lots of greenery. Behind it, a green hilly land, and the sea everywhere. This must be what paradise is like.

We were greeted by brilliant sunshine as we strolled through the streets, then took bus line 3 into Acadia National Park. It's not that easy to do something suitable in the wilderness with three children, one of them a baby. But after crossing a beautiful beach, we walked a trail here that had something for all age groups (even though Iris got pretty annoyed with the climbing...).

Beautiful views, some really steep inclines, crawling on all fours a few times, we let our first real national park experience come alive in years.

We could continue to experience this national park for days, since we haven't even explored 1% of the walkable (!) part. Of course, a big highlight for the children was that they were trained as "Junior Park Rangers".

Proud of what we accomplished and tired from all the walking, we went to bed after a plentiful AIDA dinner.
