Surpassed 2000

Wednesday morning was just as rainy and windy as the evening before. We just wanted to pack our things and continue driving, hoping for better weather. Unfortunately, our clothes were still not dry in the laundry room. So it was a leisurely breakfast and waiting for the dryer to finish.

But now off we go. Continuing on the scenic route towards Bergen. We picked out two or three options for short walks and explorations. We passed the first one, apparently Frau Becker didn't know the turnoff and let us drive past it.

No wonder, we were also a bit confused when suddenly a roundabout appeared in the 7 km long tunnel. However, it wasn't too dramatic that we continued on, as it was raining anyway. So we continued on our way through the fjord landscapes.

We made a short stop at a waterfall (because we hadn't seen enough water yet). Here we met a camper that we had encountered before. Short chat, visited the waterfall, stretched our legs, and continued on through the rain.

In the evening, we found our parking spot for the night. A small sweet bay with a boat dock. The platform was a good place to stand. And believe it or not, we had almost ONE hour without rain and were able to sit in chairs in front of the camper and watch the canoe-kids course disembark.

On the way back to our mobile home for the time being, we fortunately decided to take the tram. Otherwise, we would have both gotten completely soaked. So it was only Theresa who got caught in a torrential downpour while loading the bikes.

Dry and after a chocolate bar for the nerves, we continued north. Through countless tunnels, some only 200 meters long, others 7.7 km. Partially right next to each other. However, it was a very pleasant drive, compared to the past few days, the road was better and wider and not quite as steep. Except for one exception. Going down a 4.4 km tunnel with an 8% gradient is something else.

Roadblocks seem to be commonplace here. Yesterday and today, there were people in bright yellow road maintenance clothes standing on the road, explaining to us kindly what was going on and that we should have a moment of patience. When we continued driving, we were waved goodbye very nicely and wished a good trip.

We not only admire the friendliness of the Norwegians, but also their environmental awareness. There are trash cans at every conceivable point, the streets and picnic areas are very clean, and above all, it feels like every 5th car is an electric car. You can find a charging station at every gas station and almost every parking lot, no matter how far outside it is.

After a short ferry ride, it didn't take long before we hit the 2000 kilometers with our MARC. However, faster than we would like. We would have liked to take more time for the route and take day trips. But that's not how it turned out, so we continued to our sleeping place for today.

We ended up in Joelstraholmen. So tomorrow we only have about 3 hours of driving ahead of us. The campsite is highly recommended. If you are in the area, plan it as your overnight stopover. Located right on the river, very clean, very well maintained by many permanent campers, and child-friendly. Even if you are traveling by car, there are many small cabins available for rent. They look very cute and comfortable.

The weather is also somewhat affecting our mood and we get very pensive. What do we do now? The weather forecast for the western part of the country does not show any improvement for the next 10 days. Do we simply drive back towards Germany and enjoy late summer on the German North Sea? Do we stay here and fight the rain? Do we try the eastern part of the country?

It doesn't matter how far you have come, but whether you have continued even though you would have preferred to give up. -Quote of the day-

Giving up is not an option, so no German late summer. But what else? Stay tuned :-) Just so much to reveal, tomorrow we will definitely drive to our dream destination and hope that the weather forecast is right and it won't rain over lunchtime.
