Actually, we were supposed to leave early at 6:00 am today. Well, if you can't see as well - without glasses -, you shouldn't set an alarm either. We didn't set the alarm for 5:00 am, but for 6:00 am! Well, since we overslept, we also had a leisurely breakfast and didn't leave until around 8:00 am.
The car ride to Straßburg went relatively smoothly, except for the endless construction sites on Germany's highways. They're really terrible :-(.
We checked into our hotel in Kehl around 1:30 pm. Kehl is located on the border of France and Straßburg. We took the tram into Straßburg. Although... that's a lie- the driver asked us to get off two stops before the city. They were on strike! Okay, then we'll walk the rest of the way. When we arrived in the city center, I was really shocked by how many people were out and about in Straßburg. Due to the corona pandemic, we haven't seen these crowds in ages. Well, this is a chance for the vaccine to prove itself! We also had to prove everywhere that we were actually vaccinated (even in the outdoor areas of restaurants, bars, and cafes)! There was a large demonstration against the vaccination requirement in the city. There was a lot of excitement 🥳!
Straßburg is a fantastically beautiful city with many old half-timbered houses, a huge cathedral, quaint alleyways, and many other sights. Tomorrow we will rent an audio guide and visit all the sights. Today we soaked up the atmosphere of this beautiful city and let ourselves drift through the enchanting alleyways. Littlefoot is also very excited, she enjoys the view from our arms and seems very satisfied :-)! It's great that our little one is traveling with us for three weeks!
I was quite curious about communication because the French are very specific about that. But in the bars and cafes we visited today, we were able to have great conversations in English. Only on the tram, a guy spoke to me in French. He probably had a question about Littlefoot. I didn't understand ANYTHING and looked at Daniela with big question marks in my eyes. Fortunately, Daniela speaks French and was able to translate. I'm really sorry that I can't have a conversation in French :-(, although sometimes it can be quite useful... grins.
Well, dear ones, we're already lazing around in bed. We're really exhausted from the journey and all the walking. We wish you a good night.
