Part 3: Kings Canyon

Woke up again at 6 o'clock today with a beautiful song!

I am already awake before and enjoy the view of the sky! I have never seen so many shooting stars at once. The moon has set, so it is pitch black - except for the stars - that feeling with the dome - the stars go all the way to the horizon - so beautiful! It's very strange to be so far away from home - without any connection! Only the children and I - it feels good. We live here reduced to the essentials and everyone is happy!

Today we are not washing either! To get hot water, you have to light the oven with wood at the showers. We don't have time and it's too cold!

Today we're heading to Kings Canyon! Another hike! Only 7 km - but up to the canyon - along the canyon, then crossing the gorge via a bridge - along the other side of the canyon and down at the end! I have to overcome my fear of heights more than once, but I am rewarded with incredible views! Daniel takes over Mika again and the two 'climb' the 7 km together. Unfortunately, the photos don't capture what it was like! A huge gorge and incredible depths! Most of the photos are on the other camera! 26000 steps for Mika - and always climbing over rocks! It took us 4 hours for the 7 km and we were really fast!

When the tour is over, everyone is happy because of the beautiful impressions!

Our guide Jake tells us a lot about the healing effects of various plants and about the animals, among other things. He talks about a very endangered koala species, the Pic-Me Koalas, they are only 15 cm tall and are cared for in a nearby recreation area. Coincidentally, we see two on a tree 10 minutes later! Everyone is extremely happy and takes endless photos!

Daniel and I are very suspicious of this story and ask Jake about it, who has a lot of fun with how much the tourists are excited about 2 small stuffed animals in the tree! ☺️

After dinner, we head back to Alice Springs. When we arrive at the hotel, we are happy about the shower! All warm clothes go into the washing machine and since we can no longer go outside due to lack of clothing, we have to rely on room service with burgers and sweet potato fries!
