Wednesday in Dubrovnik

Ippubblikat: 20.09.2017

Already Wednesday...

Yesterday we didn't do much, we left camp ciste where we liked it very much and had some relaxing sunny days.

On the way to Mlini we passed by Ston, they have a sort of Chinese Wall there, a really big fortress complex that actually consists of two places, Ston and Mali Ston.. both have one or two towers and the places are connected by a very long city wall.. just like the Great Wall of China.. so we could check that off the list too ;)

We arrived at the campsite very early, we were almost alone. Two hours later it was full, and two more hours later it was overcrowded. I didn't expect that.. And all of this in the off-season.. somehow very different than expected!

Today we got up early - haha, in reality Markus wakes me up every morning at 7! - to catch the first boat to Dubrovnik. But it didn't work out, the guy at the pier said: 'No boat, maybe the first boat at 10, captain needs to check the weather report if it's possible at 10...' The waves were crashing against the pier... mhm...

At 10 it finally left, but they decided that at 5 minutes to 10 that the weather was nice enough, and the sea was rather rough and I didn't feel so comfortable on the boat - small boats, bad weather, rough sea, deciding at the last minute to go anyway.. I've experienced all of this once before on a boat trip that I'd rather not repeat, more like one of those stories you tell but actually don't want to have experienced.. And apparently the memory comes back pretty quickly after all :( that's why we took the bus in the evening, not the boat.

Dubrovnik.. what can one say?

Many tourists, but we knew that already, all filled with GoT merchandise. The city itself - fabulous. If it weren't for the modern people, you would think you're in the Middle Ages. Of course, it's not all original, there's a map where the damages from the Yugoslav war are marked. So many buildings are not original but only 20 years old.

Public transport is overwhelmed during rush hour, but who's surprised? You just have to expect that you won't catch the first bus. or the second, if you're unlucky...

But we managed to slip past the quarrelling Englishwoman who was shouting at everyone else: 'No Lady, no! We were first!' And actually, we got off at the right bus stop on the way back home.. Coincidence? Luck? Skill? Thanks to Google Maps, it's not that well signposted
