Day 2 Lions Head

Ippubblikat: 03.04.2017

In my first night in my 8-bed-room I slept very well. At breakfast, the first challenge was already waiting. What are the rules of conduct in this hostel? However, I was quickly enlightened by a Belgian woman. The breakfast is served to you if you have signed up on a list, the dishes are washed and brought to the kitchen after the meal.

Yesterday, when I went to a restaurant for a drink, one of the waitresses convinced me to order another beer from her. In return, she wrote me a list of places to visit in Cape Town. A win-win situation, I must say.

That's why today I decided to take a short hike to Lions Head, a mountain next to the famous Table Mountain. Instead of walking along the road, I took the slightly longer but much more beautiful coastal route. That is, as long as it lasted, because suddenly there was a whole village full of villas in my way. I had arrived in the 'rich district' of Cape Town.

The weather wasn't really nice yet, there was a thick layer of fog over the city. I couldn't even see my destination.

Somewhere up there should be Lions Head

I was also the only hiker far and wide, but I enjoyed the peace and quiet and could enjoy the entire nature just for myself.

To get to the summit, I also had to overcome a small climbing path

Then you finally reach the top and you can't see more than two meters. The summit is in the middle of the fog. But the short break before the descent was worth it because suddenly the sun tore open the layer of fog and revealed the beautiful view.

On the descent, I encountered a lot more people than on the ascent. They had all waited until the fog cleared and now had to climb the mountain in the blazing midday sun.

Since it was only noon, I decided to also climb the neighboring hill, Signal Hill, which was conveniently on the way back.

From Signal Hill, I was able to take a photo of Lions Head as it looks without fog.

But Signal Hill doesn't need to hide with its views either.
