Cape Peninsula

On Thursday, we started our excursion to Cape Peninsula early in the morning, before breakfast. Our first stop was at the VA Waterfront in front of the Two Oceans Aquarium, where we invited Studer's. We made good progress via M3 and the GPS guided us safely to Muizenberg, to Surfer's Corner, where we arrived shortly before 9:00 am. There are these colorful bathing huts on the beach. However, most of them are in St. James.

Since our stomachs started growling, we went together to the Cafe Knead (Bakery) in Muizenberg, where we strengthened ourselves with delicious Eggs Benedict and smoked salmon.

We continued our journey via St. James and Simon's Town (here is the harbor of the South African Navy, and on the hill behind it are the old harbor defense installations with the large cannons) to Boulder Beach where we were able to admire the penguins. Hundreds of these animals live in the colony on this protected beach. They are not bothered by the many visitors.

Afterwards, we continued south to the entrance of Cape Point Nature Reserve. Here, you had to pay an entrance fee, quite a lot, but understandable. After a short drive, we arrived at Cape Point, where we parked the car. A funicular goes up to the lighthouse, where you can also walk to the cliffs on foot (it's about 200 meters down to the sea). A magnificent view of the Atlantic and Indian Ocean.

We had to drive back the same way, as we had ordered a picnic in Noordhoek, which we had to postpone by 90 minutes due to suboptimal planning or incorrect assessment of distances. After nearly an hour, we arrived at Cape Point Vineyards and were able to sit on the already prepared blankets and enjoy the view of the Atlantic coast from slightly above. What a view, simply beautiful.

On the way back, we still had Chapman's Peak Drive ahead of us, this route is often used for car advertisements and is a toll road along the coast between Noordhoek and Hout Bay. It's narrow, but with a fantastic view of the coastline and the sea. I will probably drive through it again, it was so beautiful.

In Camps Bay, where we were already on our HoppOn/HoppOff tour on Wednesday, we unloaded Studer's, who wanted to visit Camps Bay. Our paths now separate for almost a week, until we meet again in Franschhoek.

We took the direct route from Camps Bay to our accommodation to freshen up, because in the evening we had a table reserved at Waterkloof in Somerset West. The Uber took us there in just under an hour, and after an aperitif, we enjoyed an indescribable dinner in several courses, with matching wine pairing. The location of Waterkloof, on the slope, with a view of the valley, the culinary experience, simply wonderful. Around 11:00 pm, Paul (our Uber driver) picked us up again and brought us safely and quickly back to Sea Point/Cape Town in just under 50 minutes.

A day full of experiences and impressions has come to an end.
