Koh Lanta / Day 34-37

Ippubblikat: 02.10.2019

Hey guys, I have been in the project on Koh Lanta for a week now. Here's my summary of this week: The work is really exhausting. There is a lot to do, but I'm slowly getting used to it.

On the boards in the picture you can see what needs to be done. Both the daily and the weekly tasks are listed here. It also shows who is doing what and who is walking which dogs. It looks like a lot at first glance, but once you understand it, it's actually not so bad.

One of the main tasks in the last few days was taking care of and cleaning the dog quarantine station. This is where the sick and injured dogs are kept. Some of the diseases can be contagious to humans or other dogs, so there are strict hygiene regulations: Each cage can only be entered with the corresponding gown and shoes. In most cages, gloves must also be worn, which are disposed of after single use. Every time you leave one of the cages, you have to spray yourself with red disinfectant and wash your hands again. Each dog has its own food bowl, which must be washed with the corresponding sponge after every use and soaked in a bucket of water and bleach for at least 10 minutes. The cages themselves are also cleaned daily. First, the entire floor is scrubbed with regular cleaning agent, and then water with bleach is spread on the floor and left to act for another 10 minutes before rinsing it off with water. So you can see, quite a lot of work for just seven cages.

After my night shift, I had an early morning shift right after. You can imagine how tired I was. So I went to bed early and one of the cats named Peter Pan kept me company.

Yesterday I had my first day off and treated myself to a hotel. Finally, I had clean water to shower and a "normal" toilet. Of course, the pool was a must. Unfortunately, even though I applied sunscreen, I got a slight sunburn. I guess I didn't apply the sunscreen often enough.

This afternoon, I will be trained to work with the cats. Those who know me know that I have two cats of my own and I love cats very much. So I'm looking forward to the new tasks. Let's see how challenging they will be.

That's it for now, wishing you a nice rest of the week.

Yours, Alex
