Snorkeling in Porto de Galinhas

Actually, we wanted to go to Maragogi, a beach that is halfway between Recife and Salvador and is supposed to be great for snorkeling. But once again, we had to experience that small villages are very difficult and expensive to reach.

In advance, we had tried to plan our trip to Maragogi. Information on the internet and in travel books was hard to find, and calling bus agencies was a challenge. In the end, we gathered all the necessary information and went to the bus station. When we arrived there, we found out that the departure times and especially the prices of the buses were completely incorrect.

Since we didn't want to spend a fortune on the trip, it quickly became clear: we need a different destination. So, we sat in a corner of the train station with two travel guides, two phones, and all our luggage, looking for a new destination. Time was running out, it was already 8 PM, and we definitely didn't want to spend the night at the train station.

Two hours and two taxi rides later, we were on the bus to Porto de Galinhas, a small village 100 km away from Recife.

The beach was fantastic, and we spent the first day sunbathing and swimming. A Piña Colada, served with great attention to detail, was not only a delightful sight but also a true treat for the taste buds.

For the second day, we booked a snorkeling tour. Equipped with snorkel, mask, fins, and lots and lots of sunscreen, we took a boat to the nearby coral reefs. The water was so clear that we were immediately thrilled. We dove under and saw beautiful fish. With Marine's camera, we followed the underwater creatures and had a great time taking photos. We really enjoyed the excursion, it was amazing!
