Here we go... the bags are packed, the car is checked and we are on the road.
What can I say, the Hamburg motorways say goodbye to us with a nice little traffic jam and make it easy for us to say goodbye.
After a bumpy ride on a closed A7, we slowly continue south and our first stop is in one of Germany's beautiful cities "Heidelberg". We end the day comfortably with a cool shandy and a delicious meal at # https://regie-heidelberg.de/ .
After a restful night, we set off for our next “small” destination: Freiburg. As it says so beautifully in Wikipedia:
Freiburg im Breisgau, a university town in the Black Forest in southwest Germany, is known for its mild climate and rebuilt medieval city center crisscrossed by small streams.
On the way to the old town we had our first meeting with a motorcycle gang... SteetArt with humor 😉
Hhmmm… yes Freiburg is definitely a pretty little town with small streams in an old town that is really worth seeing. After a nice walk and a visit to Freiburg Minster…
... we went to a beautiful beer garden, the Kastaniengarten # https://www.greiffenegg.de/kastaniengarten.html with a wonderful view over the old town and the cathedral. Here too we satisfied our hunger with a delicious local meal. Meatballs and Obatzter.
SO now let's get to the topic of "mild climate"... you've had a delicious meal and suddenly the first drops fall. Okay, as a northern German, it's basically no problem, you just walk a step faster in the rain. BUT something went wrong and we just weren't fast enough 🌧️
EXCERPT from the BZ: Some severe thunderstorms with heavy rain are causing a change in the weather in southern Baden. In Freiburg, streets flooded after a thunderstorm passed through. Cellars were full.
What can I tell you, we were right in the middle of it. I haven't seen so much rain at once in a long time... wet down to my underwear. Even the banknotes were floating in our wallet and we left a huge puddle in the hotel elevator 🫠. A real experience!
