Bangkok Day 3

Diterbitkan: 06.11.2018

  • The next morning started with a walk through Bangkok's green lung, Lumphini Park. We had seen Irwan on Galileo or some other show like that, where he said that huge monitor lizards live in the park. Aiman Abdallah was right. Some of these mini-dinos were sunbathing in the middle of the park or swimming in the streams and ponds. The largest specimen we discovered must have been 1.50 meters tall. The park was completely calm and you felt far away from the hectic and noisy traffic. Some cyclists and joggers were seen on their morning rounds. At just under 33 degrees. By the way, walking dogs and cats is prohibited here. The next stop was the Unicorn Café. Totally exaggerated but somehow funny. Seriously, adults sit down in unicorn costumes and eat unicorn cakes from unicorn plates. Well. Asians, you know. We continued by Skytrain to the river. The best and cheapest means of transport in Bangkok, unfortunately only with connections to half the city. Since the King didn't occupy the entire river this time, we booked a 1-hour boat ride at the pier with the long-tail boat. On the journey, you had a wonderful view of various temples, the royal palace, the skyline of Bangkok, and the famous hotel from The Hangover. After this round trip by Skytrain and Metro back to the hotel, a quick dip in the pool and freshened up. Dressed up in fine clothes, as later a visit to the rooftop bar of the Marriot was scheduled. According to the internet, you shouldn't show up there like a fool, so long trousers and sturdy footwear. Before that, we visited Terminal 21, which is comparable to Loom in Bielefeld. Just 17 times as big. There apparently are several of them, in one you can have your Ferrari, Mercedes, or Bugatti customized. But since the driver sits on the right side in Thailand, that was not an option for us. Instead, we bought another souvenir magnet for our fridge. AHU! Then we headed to the Marriot rooftop bar. Once on the 48th floor, please. When we arrived at the top, just WOW. Bangkok's only bar with a 360-degree view. Super mega cool. With several gin cocktails and the view, the evening went well. Even Maren was impressed despite her pronounced fear of heights. It didn't matter that a cocktail cost 10 euros. Well, we had to spend the remaining Thai money anyway. And speaking of walking around like a fool. Apparently, having an escort of prostitutes, wearing slides, shorts, or sweatpants was not a problem here. I wouldn't have minded if some of the visitors had taken the direct path down. Well, sweated for nothing. Back at the hotel, quickly packed our backpack, short FaceTime session with home, and prepared for the upcoming bus ride to Cambodia. Next stop: Siem Reap.
