Island - Day 10 - Leaving the Westfjords, entering the West

Diterbitkan: 23.09.2016

On day 10, we checked off another 'must have done in Iceland'. At the foot of a mountain, we found a secluded hot spring with a view of the vast prairieland. Since the sun was shining, we didn't think twice and jumped in. One word: EnjoyLifeToTheFullest.

After a long soak, we continued to Mount Kirkjufell - the most photographed mountain in Iceland. Average at best. Supposedly resembles a church with its shape - trying too hard.

In the Snaefellsjokull National Park, we spontaneously booked a guided tour of a lava cave (Vatnshellir). The tours start every hour on the hour. Arrived at 5:00 p.m., paid at 5:01 p.m., and joined the group - just in time. The cave was very beautiful, although it was quite cold and dripping from the ceiling. For the first time in Iceland, we felt a complete absence of wind.

Then we visited the Snaefellsjokull glacier and treated ourselves to a culinary experience at a restaurant (pizza and fish).

And every day the groundhog greets us. Same problem as yesterday (finding a place to sleep). Today, conditions were made more difficult by insane, truly insane wind and rain - storm - as well as complete darkness! We found a spot at a parking lot with a view of the sea (which only became clear the next morning) right by the main road. Just enjoying life. In the car, we were gently rocked to sleep by the wind, no one got seasick.

End of day 10.
