Arrival: A boat trip that is funny ... vs. Shit on your foot ...

Diterbitkan: 31.03.2019

Short introduction; you're going on a trip and want to share it with others ... you're creating a blog without much frills and fanfare. Here we are. It will be a mix of German and English. As direct as possible, because I want to spend less time thinking about how to write and more time thinking about what to write. Reflection and humor may come up at times and even intersect with philosophy, but it won't hurt.

Day 1-2. The arrival. Useful background knowledge: The trip itself happens under different circumstances, which I don't want to go into too much detail about. That's it; Better to travel the world with the power of one arm than not at all.

I had a certain affinity for flying, so I was really looking forward to the two flights. The hardware couldn't be more different. A380, not the model of the future, and the A350, hyped to the limit.

I have never slept well on a plane before. Different in this one. After a seemingly simple meal and a bit of on-board entertainment (Attention advertisement, Pilots EyeTV, Next Top Model in the A350 from Munich to Boston, highly recommended) my eyes closed. I slept for a good 6 hours in the very calm cabin under pleasant flight conditions, at least for such a huge plane.

There wasn't much time for transit in Singapore, I was only able to buy some donuts. Carolina wouldn't have continued the flight without them.

What has to be done ...
What has to be done ...

Then on the A350 (the knowledge acquired from PilotsEyeTV makes the bird even more fascinating) I flew from Singapore to Christchurch.

All good as well, but unlike the previous flight, I opted for old school entertainment (Back to the 80s).

Old school on-board entertainment. Is everything correct? Find the mistake.

Mentally overwhelmed by the mental exercise, I couldn't find any sleep. Everything was a bit tighter than in the A380, and sitting for so long wasn't good for my backside.

Then indulging in the pleasures of flying ...

Arriving in Christchurch and going through the very strict entry requirements regarding food and microcultures. The hiking shoes were carefully inspected for dirt residues on the soles and the sniffer dog searched for food. In other countries, the effort is made to prevent drug smuggling. As a secluded island, New Zealand naturally has a different focus here. So I decided to leave the ginger that I quickly put in my pocket there. Since this can result in a fine of up to 400 NZ dollars, I'd rather buy it for less at the supermarket.

Then go ahead, pick up the camper and buy groceries for the first time. Everything is fine, including the commotion of shoplifters, but my collarbone makes it difficult to walk, so I decided to skip the chase scene ... Departure and starting off driving on the wrong side of the road. It needs some practice.

The car. Nickname to follow.

First stop. Formerly a volcano. Recognizable when looking at Maps. Relax a bit, have a glass of wine and eat cheap and dirty cheese bread. Caro has already fallen asleep on the drive to the land of dreams. Nature looks great. Yes, there are sheep too. I assume overpopulation. Can't do anything about it. Except maybe eat lamb. Everything in its own time.

So, the first report is coming to an end, just like the battery life of my phone. For one, it's 3:15 a.m. local time and the wind is blowing so hard that I thankfully used the time of jet lag and securing the bus before departure to write this.

Finally, about the confusing title of the entry. A boat trip that is funny ... vs. Shit on your foot ... - There were quite a few things that didn't quite fit in. Whether it was the circumstances mentioned at the beginning or small things like dropping a bottle, suddenly feeling like you left your jacket on the plane, or not being able to find your passport or your debit card not working. The highlight was not seeing the step in the camper despite the sign and almost ramming it back into the hospital.

It turned out okay in the end 🤟

In the end, it is what it is, and it's good. Life is beautiful 😘

Huhu!
